I now have over 50 people with a Guardian Tag... included are roles of
Guardian, Ward 1-4, Deceased (the father) and Witness (the mother). For this
tag, I think I like the concept of roles to better define the legal
relationship of those included. Have more I will be entering.

This is my first TMG attempt at using roles. Back in the days of Roots III
some of us used *Style Sheets*. In order to keep track of how roles (and
their sentences) are incorporated into TMG, I created a Style Sheet. The
thing I love most about TMG is the flexibility and the thing that I need
most is bringing some order to that flexibility.

I went through all my custom tags checking assigned roles and global
sentences. Recorded them on style sheet - now when I need a sentence, I copy
and paste from that. If I have edited the global sentence or roles for
standard tags, I make note of that information as well. All set up by Tag
Name, so it is easy to find what I need at the moment.

There are probably easier ways to do this for experienced users. Do like
seeing the role of an individual in the tag when I look at one of the
*witness* screens. I very much like your suggestion to use "left orphaned by
the death of" and must give that some thought.

After entering a few of these, it occurred to me that a reader might think
both the mother and father were deceased much as I did when I first
encountered the Guardian concept. So I adjusted the memo field so the
sentence reads: He [or Trigana Peed] was named guardian of Jordan W Peed,
Mary 'Polly" Peed, Sidney Peed, John S Peed II, children of Elizabeth [---]
Peed and his deceased brother, John S Peed I, on 19 Feb 1827 in Beaufort Co,
NC.

This is better than what I was doing which was nothing... thanks for the
ideas.

: If this is a one time thing, just enter the sentence as you want it to
: appear in the tag, and skip the variables.
:
: If you expect to do it more than another time or two, use a tag but skip
: the roles. Make sure you enter the guardian as P1, the deceased (if you
: want) as P2, and the wards as witnesses; then use a sentence like:
:
: [P1] was named guardian of [WO]<, left orphaned by the death of [P2]><,
: [M]> <[D]> <[L]>
:
: where Memo can contain any added details (like relationships).
