Did many of those who were concerned about the lack of TMG mail check the Rootsweb pages?

I saw this message, and forgot about it. When I tried FreeBMD (Rootsweb's database of British Birth/Marriage/Death indexes) I got a screen announcing the shutdown. My reaction (aside from disappointment at not getting to use the database) was that Rootsweb mailing lists would probably also be down - and that's why we were not getting messages from the normally busy lists. (It was enough for my wife to wonder if our ISP was having mail problems again.)

The web often has several ways of getting information. If things don't seem to be working properly, check on the web.
