Jim,
I have divided my photos into 3 types: Portrait, Group, and View. I then
give each photograph a sequential 3 digit number after the type letter p g
or v.
This results in p001, p002 etc for pictures of individuals for example.
This system works for me as it does not depend upon identifying the subject,
and helps when I know I'm looking for that group photo, say.
Mike Fox mentioned a 'thumbnail' browser. I have found mine invaluable for
locating photos I have already scanned.
As for a database to hold the index and data, I use TMG.
