For instance, I've brought some of my data from several of the other
programs I've tried into TMG, and was wanting to "merge" them, so to have
one complete set of each family line. But then I saw something that seemed
to say merging wouldn't check for duplicates. So that makes me think I'd
only do more harm. But now I've got all these databases, and hate to think
of dealing with them all all over again by hand, as it were.
Jo,
Bonita gave you a very good explaination on how to proceed. My database when
I switched programs was about 20,000. My cousin's when she switched was about
900. She elected to start over.
If you have a small data base from different programs you might want to
printout all the info from each program and start over. Merging and
correcting sources, etc takes time.
Bonita said she created a test set. Try creating a test set from what you
have and assessing the situation of re-entering or merging. It will give you
practice in TMG and help you decide how you want to handle your situation.
