I'm assuming that the file you're trying to import a GEDCOM file? TMG
won't let you import a GEDCOM (or any other file) directly into an existing
TMG file. Start with an open file (the sample dataset will do). If you
want, and this is probably a good idea, create a new directory for your new
dataset. Also, remember that TMG is a Win3.x program, and it cannot
accommodate long file/directory names, so create a directory something like
c:\gene\new\.

Now, do a File|Import from... and select GEDCOM v4.0, v5.5. You will get a
dialog box asking you to enter where your gedcom is, and where you want
your new data set, and what to call it. Enter the appropriate values (say,
c:\gene\new\cousins.ged and c:\gene\new\cousins.tmg) and click on OK. The
data should import.

As to the WordPerfect file, if you don't have WordPerfect (or Word or some
other similar word processing package), you'll have to ask your
correspondent to resend the file in, say, plain text, with the pictures
separate.
