I use this system and am totally sold on it. However, to protect
against a possible inadvertent mass renumbering of the source numbers,
I also place the source number in the source description in curly
brackets {} somewhere so I have a permanent record.

I have used this basic concept for years in complex litigation, where
we need to keep track of thousands of documents, any of which may have
dozens of names or other details to track. This basic approach is
almost universally used in such situations.

Basically, each source has a unique number, you file them numerically,
and you use the *database*, not some manual file system, to do the
indexing and sorting. That is what databases are good at.

Some day, when TMG gets good at allowing attached images, I will do
with it what we do with the litigation documents in some of the bigger
cases--image them and have the appropriate document always available
at the click of a mouse.
