Hi Steve,
I have FTM 7.5 (32 bit) and TMG (16 bit). I use TMG for my genealogy work,
and just use FTM for receiving files from others.
Maybe its not size (word size that is) that matters, but what you do with
it.
I much prefer TMG's 16 bits to FTM's 32 bits.

Bill,
I'm using TMG version 4.0d on Win 2000. I had the same problems when
running on Win95. I also have a lot of other programs installed, but
have even turned off most running in the background and I still have
problems. One has to wonder how many more problems will crop up when
Windows releases their XP OS in October?
TMG was designed for 16-bit systems. In my opinion, the problems being
encountered have little to do with Microsoft, but with Wholly Genes not
staying up to date with base architecture (and Microsoft is only one of
many companies that help in developing base architecture). We're talking
about SIX plus years since 32-bit became the industry standard. I love
the TMG program, but let's get realistic and admit that it's woefully
behind the times with regard to its base architecture.

Hi Steve,
I've been using TMG on NT4.0 and now W2K for years without any
problems. (I don't use VCF).
As far as I can remember, I didn't have to use any 'special
settings' to install it. My machine is also loaded with lots of other
programs, MS Office, SQL Server, DB2 etc etc and they all coexist
happily together.
What OS are you using ?, have you applied all the latest fix
packs, device drivers etc etc

Gee, 32-bit technology has been available since 1993/4 and was, more
less, standardized across the software industry in 1995. I find it
unblievable that TMG is NOT 32-bit. Wholly Genes and Bob Velke have to
be wasting a huge amount of technical support time on issues that are
DIRECTLY related to the 16-bit versus 32-bit issue. It's obvious just
from the number of posts on TMG-L and the TMG Genforum list.
I would venture to guess that there are only a couple of readers of
TMG-L that even use Microsoft 3.1 or DOS operating systems. The vast
majority of computer users are using Win95 or newer operating systems.
Given this fact, Velke is woefully behind the curve. Fact is fact that
cannot be rationalized by Wholly Genes' small staff. There are literally
hundreds of small software firms that have 32-bit software packages.
Personally, I feel that 6 years is long enough to have to wait for a TMG
version that uses the industry standard - and I'm really getting tired
of the crashes and freezups and the dozen or so work-arounds that I have
to go through to get my TMG stable. TMG is the only software that I use
that invariably crashes or freezes up.
