My mother died in 1967 at age 62 and 3 months. She did collect benefits
for 3 months. Nevertheless she is not listed in the SSDI. Incidentally,
in my state the funeral director does not fill out a death certificate.
A licensed physician must do it and file it with the local county health
district from whom the funeral director must obtain it. Funeral
directors do not declare people dead. They are told up front that the
people whose remains they are asked to dispose of are already dead, and
are given death certificates to prove it. Call it CYA for morticians.
