I don't know a good source, except Lee Hoffman is always a good bet, but off
this list, one can occasionally pick up very valuable tips. You mention
census data. If you do as I do and usually enter a number of census data
entries from the same county and year etc, and you use Diane Begeman's system
as I do, here is one for you that someone on the list passed on to me. I find
it a real time saver, but even better, it saves a lot of mistakes. Go to your
CEN-HD or CEN-ENR entry screen. Go up to the top and select tools and then
select Text Macro. You will find that you can enter "person ID of the census,
the year of the census, County, State etc separated by semi-colons. Each
semicolon will give you a carriage return. For example the 1850 census for
Greene County, IL might look like this as a text macro: 1936;1830;01 Jan
;;;;Greene County;IL. 1936 being the "person" ID of Greene County, which goes
in the Principal field, 1830 for the year of the census, 01 Jan being the
sort date scheme you use, the four semicolons will get you to the county
field and the next semi will put you in the State field. Thus you can put
your cursor in the Princpal field, press shift F3, and all the appropriate
fields will be filled. Of course since the sort field will want to be changed
after each entry you will have to tweak that a bit. Dale Mueller
