Being offline does not mean it is okay to turn off anti-virus auto
protection. What if you open an email with a virus, or an infected file
previously downloaded? For example, a cousin of mine sent me an email, in
HTML format, that happened to carry a worm; no, there was no attachment,
the HTML code itself carried the worm. I was offline when I attempted to
read it, and Norton auto-protect caught it. Being offline does not render
your PC immune! Further, I have not heard that Norton is known for
"causing problems", though I do know that it should be disabled while
installing software.
