Amy- I presume by two sets of numbers you mean the TMG ID number and the
Henry #. I don't use the Henry # system, but prefer one of my own making in
which I assign a letter like z to a dead end ancestor and za, zb zc etc for
his kids and zaa, zab etc for za's kids etc. I like my system better than the
Henry system but that is not the point of this message. I basically do not
use the TMG ID outside of TMG. I optimize TMG everyonce in a while and it
fills in and compresses the ID numbers, so the ID number as applied to an
individual may change and is quite meaningless as far as identification
outside the picklist is concerned. I use for actual ID my lettering system,
which is an unique name and rarely changes (only for corrections) placed in
the reference field for each individual. You can sort on the reference field
so it works well in the picklist to find folks. It also lists alphabetically
so z and all his descendants are in neat order when one is sorting on the
reference field. This becomes particularly handy for data entry. For example
if I have a family of a couple and 10 kids for whom I want to make a census
entry, I can sort on the reference field and the person, his wife and all the
kids are together in neat order in the picklist and I can find them and
notate to their names quite easily-Dale
