FWIW - I use numbers that start with my ahnentafel number. My Adam Ash is #96 on
my pedigree chart so his decendants start with 96. Though I use (12) for the
12th child, you could also use a C. So, 96.7C53 is the third child of the 5th
child of the 12th child of the 7th child of #96 on my pedigree. (I would have
that as 96.7(12)53, by the way). If the person is descended through two lines,
then for the first instance of coming from two lines I make a note of both
numbers, but use the "first" (lowest) number from then on.
For the record, I use 96.7C53wb [actually I use 96.7(12)53wb], 96.7C53wc for the
second and third wives (or ha, hb for husbands). I only go one generation back
for the spouse parents, so 96.7C53waf (father) and 96.7C53wam (mother).
I have a whole "talk" I give on this, and if you are interested, then send me a
reminder in about a week and I'll try to find time to put it up as a link on my
web page.
