Carol
The term DSP stands for *decessit sine prole* which means died without
issue.

I set up a 2 PART Related Flag --
First PART is called "Related" with these values:
? - Unknown (default)
A - Ancestor
C - Collateral
D - Descendant
M - Marriage [If used, also set "Marriage" flag]
S - Self
X - Unrelated
U - Unconnected
Second PART is named "Marriage" with these values:
N - Not applicable (default)
A - Ancestor Marriage
C - Collateral Marriage
D - Descendant Marriage

Therefore, AM is an Ancestor Marriage [other than direct line], CM is those
who marry Collaterals, DM is those who marry Descendants. Since I have lots
of family lines in a particular county, I have many people who are a
ancestor/collateral/descendant of one line and also marry into another line.
For example, my 3rd GGrandfather [Peed line] not only married my 3rd
GGrandmother... he later married the sister [collateral] of my 2nd
GGrandmother [Evett line]. So 3rd GGfather Peed has ...A3G* CM... [Ancestor
3rdGG end of line, Collateral Marriage] in his Ref field - the sister [his
2nd wife] of my 2nd GGmother Evett has ...C AM... [Collateral, Ancestor
Marriage] in her Ref field.

Use X when people are connected to dataset by a relationship but are not
related to me.... example would be parents or siblings of those who marry
into one of my lines. Use U when a person is entered into the dataset but is
not connected by a relationship to any other person... example would be a
person who I find mentioned in a deed who has the same surname [Peed] but is
not yet linked to my Peed lines. I didn't use to enter these folks but it is
easier to keep track of them in TMG.

Gosh that was long winded. Hope it makes sense. :-)

: Rae Jean,
: Would you please explain what X, U, AM, CM, DM and DSP stand for? I
really
: like how you use the reference field. I've been using ahnentafel numbers
: which were great with FTM but not in TMG. Thank you
