Hi Anne, I do not see it as a problem. In my personal numbering
system I have a man (modified Henry # 12211B) who took in a child.
That child is 12211BX. Any letter from the end of the alphabet
appearing in a modified Henry number stands out. Her husband,
children and grandchildren all have numbers that begin with
12211BX. There is no confusion about how her family is related. She
is related and she has two numbers but 12211BX tells the story best.
TMG can recognize an adoptive relationship. Just as I flag adoptive
relationships with letters from the end of the alphabet, TMG could
flag any person and all of that person's descendants. I suspect that
most children who were adopted in 1823 were adopted by relatives. A
researcher may not know of the relationship but should be able to
enter all the descendants of the that adopted child and, in reports,
that lineage be included and distinguishable from "biological"
relations.
In a project such as you are doing, biological relationships are
part of the history but so are adoptions and all the other
relationships. I can certainly see how some changes in TMG could be
a great benefit to you.
If a story is ever confirmed, I will probably find an ancestor who
was adopted by a Brögger. Does that mean I will drop my Brogger
name study. Not in the least. It just means I have an additional
lineage to follow back through history. If that happens, I hope TMG
will be able to help me record and tell the tale of two families
accurately.
