While I agree that the construct, "place then, place now," can be useful
and a clarifying addition for the reader, "now" in a database is not as
meaningful as in a printed publication (which is, by its very nature,
point-in-time). If you are going to use the "now", I would suggest
specifying in some fashion when "now" is. If you do not, then you and
everyone working with your data in the future will need to recheck each
event with a "now" location to see if the construct is still valid each time
the event is used.
Perhaps a footnote explaining that, "Salford Township was in that part
of Philadelphia Co. which became Montgomery Co. in 1784." I'm sure someone
on the list will be able to improve this idea.
