Terry, I would have to agree, anyone that would recommend staying in win 9x
anything
either is blinded gamer or not very knowledgeable of the system itself.

At the very least, if you want to go with a time tested system that is more
stable, and
this isn't even a comparison to 9x, go with win 2k. If you want to look at
XP, think of it
this way. In software never buy the 0 version of it as it will be buggy and
have many upgrades
Win 2k is NT 5.0 while XP is 5.1.

Is there cutting edge stuff in it. yes of course. But you can even make XP
just 2k second edition
if you like and have all that stability.

The main thing to remember, 9x is based on old DOS technology and shares all
of its resources
with every other program running. NT based system each program is in its
own virtual system.
when one crashes it doesn't bring down the entire system.

Having played with XP since Beta 2, I can honestly say in most cases it is
as stable as 2k is now.
and at least 200 to 300 times more stable than any 9x system.

As a matter of fact, on the current running minus one update of software
that required a reboot,
I have been running 24/7 for 2 months now. Something I could never do in
9x.
