Hi Linda,

I understand your frustration but if program writers were fined for
the problems their programs cause, there would not be anyone writing
programs. A program might work fine on a thousand different computers
and cause problems on computer 1001. At this moment I have only
Netscape and Space Hound open. Space Hound reports 216 files are
open. If any file is incompatible with any other open file, things can
go wrong. No programer can foresee or test for every possible
combination that might occur. Nobody could afford bug free software
if such a thing could be made.

Something as simple as the order in which files are opened can make
the difference between having a conflict and having no problems. A
problem on a specific brand and model of computer might not be
reproducable on another computer of the same brand and model with the
same software installed.

The best that we can hope for is that the software has been well
tested before release and when post-release bugs are proven, they get
fixed. The consumer must accept they might find a problem in any
software. One way to avoid many of the problems is to wait for other
users to find them and buy a later version that has had the bugs fixed
that beta testers did not find. I think that Dennis's comment that,
"There is no question that leading edge adopters are often at the
bleeding
edge as well." says a lot.
