I'm not sure which 'simpler, more stable program' you are looking at using
as they all have their moments of instability. Simplicity should, but
doesn't, equate with stability. The reason I decided to switch to TMG was
that I had a completely corrupted file on FTM which could not be restored
from backup. I received NO support from FTM tech support, except the
response that they couldn't help me. I know that the quirks can be a very
frustrating situation, and that it is a very personal decision about what
program to use, but I don't believe you will find another company that will
offer the level of support that TMG does.

Subject: [TMG] Bizarre behavior

I just had a strange thing happen in TMGW.

I was adding a source for a burial.
>From the Source Definition Screen (for Obituary), I clicked on Newspaper
Title.
A window opened with "Open" as label and prompt in first line:
Select file to erase
and with "*.*" as default in the editable field
When I escaped out of this window it just returned again, and there was
no way of getting rid of it.

Anybody seen anything like this?

I finally had just to use the End Task dialog to quit the program, and
of course I had to run the Repair utility twice. Even though with all
the precautions I take to be nice to TMGW (rebooting the machine before
I run it, etc.) I run Repair about once every other day and haven't seen
any problems, it still worries me greatly to be entrusting my data to
such a flakey program.

I am finally feeling that I have had it with this program. I may just
try to find a simpler program which does enough, and keep the remaining
tables etc. on spreadsheets or whatever. I would miss all the great
features, but the thing is just too unstable. It is so frustrating.

>From the postings, it looks like lots of other people have problems. In
fact, I may be one of the lucky ones. Every so often, someone seems to
have really corrupted data, which the folks at Wholly Genes generously
try to correct. As someone involved in software development I can
certainly sympathize with Bob and his little crew, but I think if he
can't come out with a full new version very soon, he should at least
address some of these problems many of which, as I understand it, come
from the FoxBase db engine.
