You are correct. There is a bug in the search routine and I will report it
to Bob Velke.
However all is not lost. Open the picklist and click on the "Filter" on the
tool bar and select "Edit Picklist Filter" or just push the "F5" key on the
keyboard.
Select the "Literal Filter" in the top left corner of the screen and type
"*Hervey*" (without the quotes) in the given name area and click on the OK
radio button.
This will give you a list of all entries in the picklist with the word
Hervey in the given name area.
When you are finished, be sure to click on the "Literal Filter" selection
again to clear the filter.
