Subject: [TMG] Inconsistency using formatting codes
Date: Sun, 02 Dec 2001 12:02:23 -0600

This is something I've been struggling with since I started using tmg.
Maybe someone has some suggestions....

Inconsistency in the way TMG handles formatting codes in a biography tag or
anecdote tag (both have sentence structure consisting of [M] only)
depending on whether journal narrative is sent to printer or to word
processor (Word). These tags are arrange to print after opening paragraph
consisting of BMDB info.

1. If no codes at beginning of memo:
to printer: memo begins on next line immediately after opening paragraph
and first line of first paragraph is indented automatically

to word processor: same as above

2. If [:TAB:] at beginning of memo:
to printer: memo begins on next line immediately after opening paragraph
and first line of first paragraph is indented one tab (the automatic
indentation appears to take into account that there is [:TAB:] code)

to word processor: you get double indentation, i.e. it appears that both
the automatic indentation and the [:TAB:] code are recognized.

3. If [:CR:][:TAB:] at beginning of memo:
to printer: memo begins on next line immediately after opening paragraph
(the [:CR:] code appears to be ignored) and first line of first paragraph
is indented one tab (the automatic indentation appears to take into account
that there is [:TAB:] code)

to word processor: memo skips a line after the opening paragraph (as
desired) and the first line of the first paragraph of the memo is indented
as desired (no double indentation as in 2. above.

4. If [:CR:][:CR:][:TAB:] at beginning of memo:
to printer: memo skips one line after the opening paragraph and the first
line of the first paragraph of the memo is indented (the result I had
expected with 3. above)

to word processor: two blank lines are inserted and the first line of the
first paragraph of the memo is indented (end up with an extra blank line
because of the double [:CR:] code)

I get the same result whether I use the [:CR:] code or the normal enter
key. The bottom line is I cannot come up with one coding standard which
gives me the desired result both to the printer directly or to the word
processor. Any suggestions other than edit in the word processor.
