I'm trying to change the Place Labels used on Tag Entry screens (I'm in the
UK). I've added

PLACELABELS="||_MapRef|_District|_Town|_County|||"

to the [General] section of TMG.INI, and also added each of the above labels
manually on the Master Place List->Modify place labels screen. These labels
now appear on my Tag Entry screen, which is half the problem solved.

The question is can I now get these revised place labels to appear on the
Master Place List column headings and to apply to existing tags? The Help
Panels half suggests that this might be possible

... "The standard place field labels are listed above. The default place
field labels (those which are applied to new events) are the same as the
standard place field labels unless they have been overridden by the
PLACELABELS= option in TMG.INI. The Place Field Labels screen indicates the
default label for that place label with an asterisk. Clicking on Cancel or
pressing <ESC> on the Place Field Labels screen selects the default field
label, as does selecting [Apply Defaults]. The DefaultLables column on the
Master Place List now displays "yes" or "no" to indicate whether each place
has default labels."

If I click [Apply Defaults] on the Modify Place Labels screen, the above
help would suggest that the default field label(s) would be selected, as
does the warning message that ensues

.... "The selection will PERMANENTLY ERASE ALL place labels at ALL levels
for ALL events in this data set (including any custom labels that you may
have recorded for those events) and replace them with the default field
labels. Are you sure? .. "Are you sure that you want to apply the default
field labels to all events...."

This is just what I want, but if answer "Yes", my new default labels are
instead removed from the list and the STANDARD labels are reasserted as
default and applied to all events. Back to where I started ... And nothing
much different seemed to happen on the Master Place List either.

I note that elsewhere the Help says ...

"NOTE: This option does NOT affect the place labels for events that have
been entered in v4.0 (or previous) nor does it affect the labels for
imported events."

I have 4.0 (4.0d to be precise) but that is the lastest version, isn't it?
Does this mean that the option cannot be used to affect events that have
already been entered? Any thoughts?
