Since I have an obsessive nature, I enter virtually all the info I find in
an obit. If it relates to the funeral (pallbearers, funeral home, etc.), I
put it in the funeral tag (and I would probably give pallbearers a witness
role, since they are often relatives, neighbors or close friends). If it
relates to the death itself ("so-and-so did not eat or drink for 8 days
before his death but bore his illness bravely" etc.), I put that in the
memo of the death tag. If it relates to organizations the person belongs
to eg Masonic Lodge #123, I make a tag for that (I use Association). If
the info doesn't seem to fit into the usual tags, I use the Note tag.
THEN--using an idea from someone on this list (can't remember who--I think
a couple of people, and thanks again!), I ALSO have an OBIT tag, where the
sentence is: An obituary for [PG] was published <[M1]> <[D]> <[L]>. <It
read: [M2]> The first part of the memo is "in [the name of the
newspaper]"; the second part (separated from the first in the memo field by
double pips ||) is a transcription of the obituary itself. I like this
system better than attaching the obit as an exhibit, since I often want
obituaries to print in a report, but do not necessarily want other exhibits
to print. If I don't want the obits to print, I just don't select that tag
under the report definition options. I'm very happy with this system!
