Andy,

I can't agree more about choosing software based on what it can do for me
personally, and I am a huge TMG fan. However, if I want to 'eventually'
transfer this information via GedCom to Roots Web, how I enter it in TMG
does need to be considered. If witness tags do not transfer well, in some
cases it might be desirable to create a separate tag for the person.
Specifically, census records. I add 'adult' children as witnesses to track
that they have not married and moved away from home. It would just as easy
to create an individual census record for them, and that data would transfer
via GedCom.

In my opinion what does or does not transfer to GEDCOM should have no
bearing
on anything concerning TMG. GEDCOM has always been flawed do to its various
implementations by software companies. If someone wants to swap info with me
it is either a SQZ file or a narrative report. If they are unhappy with
that-
tough. I choose my software for me- not is what is needed by others.
