I don't - ever. But I DO use the suffix, because, especially in my case with an oldest son names Ole Knutson coming to America (his father was Knut Oleson, whose father was Ole Knutson, and so on) -- when I pull up the picklist, I see ALL the Ole Knutsons. Although the farm name is entered as a name variant, I also add the farm name as a suffix, because I will see not only 35 Ole Knutsons, but I will see from the picklist that they are from different farms -- birth and death dates aren't always available. Had I been thinking, I would have added a tag for NAM-FARM -- but would it have listed in the picklist - as I have now, where I will be able to find Ole Knutson Botten under the K's and the Bs?

Yes, they are certainly fluid, but please, please don't put patronymics
and farm names [or others] in the same surname space. I've seen gedcoms
which are maddenly impossible to search due to this. I also think
putting names in as suffixes is a poor idea.
I just use Name-Var for every name [and spelling] used.
As for married names, I'd rather not use them for anyone.
As for the Iversson/Iversdatter question, isn't their common parentage
enough to relate them?
