Hi Robin -- Okay you misunderstood. Apparently you guys run your PCs differently than I do. First of all, it's obvious by how TMG names files that it's a 16-bit program. Please read what I wrote: I keep (that means, when I scan or download from the internet, I save them) all my images related to family in a folder or file called Pictures, under another file or folder called Geneology. Where I save them to has nothing to do with TMGs old-fashioned way of file naming. This would only be a problem with creating and saving new databases in TMG - which isn't a problem, because TMG won't let you use more than 8 characters. It wouldn't have a problem with the images either, because I use a surname/number system like BO0001, BO0002, PE0001, PE0002, etc. Since I am not typing out the file names (there's a browser button on the image window for selection, rather than typing from memory). I save all my files this way (faster backups). All my work is saved under a particular !
file in MY DOCUMENTS. Including my databases, which are in MY DOCUMENTS/GENEOLOGY/<SURNAME>. And I'm not sure, how you think changing the name of a folder would have to do with my system locking up when I click on the camera button in the toolbar. But my folders have been set up this way for about 10 years or so, and I rarely add a new one (I have a file XFERFILE for stuff that I'm not sure I'll be keeping).

If you meant what you typed "geneology" has 9 letters and you are faced
with the long filename short filename problem. TMG4 is a 16-bit program and
it only stores the short filename to a file. Have you recently changed the
naming of any folders or files or deleted any files from folders in your
pictures file path. "geneology" will probably be converted to "geneolo~1"

I hope someone else will add to this comment.
