Yes, about the only advantage is the data set size and possibly the Backup
file size. A minor advantage is the ability to control and maintain your
image Exhibits all in one location.

I keep most of my Image Exhibits as External ones and almost all other
Exhibits as Internal primary to reduce the size of both the data set and
the Backup file. However, the disadvantage of this is that when I send a
copy of my data set (using the Backup file) to another researcher, I have
to make sure that the External Exhibits are also sent and in which
directory/folder to place the image files. They may change them later if
desired, but initially they'd need to be in the correct directory/folder in
order that they be viewed properly. Of course, if you correspond regularly
with a researcher, you would only need to send all the External Exhibits
once, and then send only the new or updated ones and if they maintained the
proper setup based on what you told them, then all they'd need to do is
place the new/updated Exhibits in the correct directory/folder.

I noted that Backup file size is smaller although this may not be true
if you are using the TMG/DOS backup method (selected from the File=>Backup
option of the Main Menu). In this case if the External Exhibits are
normally stored in the same directory/folder as the data set, then I
believe they also will be included in the Backup file.

Hope this helps -
