Cheri,

First, though unrelated, I have changed my default marriage sentence
to add ages:
[P] married <, at age [A],> [PO] <, age [AO]> <[PARO]> <[D]> <[L]>
This gives me:
Lieut. Thomas Winchell; b. 2 Apr 1700 in Windsor, CT; m., at age 25,
Jemima Owen, age 24, daughter of Obadiah Owen and Christiana Winchell,
11 May 1725 in Simsbury, CT; d. after 1770.

When there are multiple marriages I assign a role in the marriage tag
of groom and bride. In the following example, Nathaniel Holcomb
married twice. In his first marriage I assign roles of groom and
bride in the marriage tag and then modify the grooms marriage sentence
by adding a (1) to the groom sentence:
[P] married (1)<, at age [A],> [PO] <, age [AO]> <[PARO]> <[D]> <[L]>
I do the same for the 2'nd marriage but add a (2) to the grooms
marriage sentence:
[P] married (2)<, at age [A],> [PO] <, age [AO]> <[PARO]> <[D]> <[L]>

This give me:
Nathaniel Holcomb; b. 4 Nov 1648 in Windsor, CT m. (1), at age 22,
Mary Bliss, age 19, daughter of Nathaniel Bliss and Catharine Chapin,
27 Feb 1670/71 in Springfield, MA; m. (2), at age 74, Sarah (_____)
(widow of Josiah Owen) 17 Jan 1722/23; d. 5 Mar 1740/41 in Simsbury,
CT, at age 92

In the above example, the groom sentence for the 2'nd marriage was
further modified to add (widow of Josiah Owen). This could be
accomplished by just adding "(widow of Josiah Owen)" to the grooms
marriage sentence, however, I took this one step further and created a
role of "widow1" and assigned Josiah Owen the role of "widow1". The
modified groom marriage sentence reads:
[P] married (2)<, at age [A],> [PO] <, age [AO]>(widow of [R:widow1])
<[PARO]> <[D]> <[L]>

The advantage of using a role for "widow of" is that Josiah Owen is
automaticaly included in the index when I run a report. If I just
added his name as "(widow of Josiah Owen)" he would not show up in the
index.

I am still muddling through and have to admit some confusion. I am not
an expert at all in witnesses and roles, but it is very powerfull and
I am going to have to play with witnesses and roles more thoroughly.

Hope this isn't too confusing,
Norb
