Hi Susan (and everyone else that asked),
I sent a query to Eudora support, asking whether there are any
compatibility problems between Eudora 5.0 and Nav 2000, which I had when I
sent the query to them; I have since upgraded to NAV 2002. Below is the
answer I received. I had also asked about ZoneAlarm Pro 3 and was told
there were no *known* problems.
Today, I went to the Symantec site and searched the knowledgebase for -
Eudora 5.0 NAV 2002 - and got 50k plus hits. Naturally I'm not going to
look at them all, but the first hit *seems* to refute the answer I got from
Eudora support, though there is no mention of NAV 2002 in this particular
article. Here's the URL for the first hit I got;
http://service2.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/df0a595864594c86852567ac0063608
c/952a1c6a18b8b7b4852569600062eb5f?OpenDocument
The above will be wrapped, so be sure to select the whole URL.
If I decide to try it Eudora support told me I'd have to import my email
into OE first, then import it from OE to Eudora...ugh.
(Darrell, what is "Sponsored Mode"?)
regards and thanks, beth
Answer from Eudora support;
---------------------------
The following is taken from Symantec's website about Norton 2000 running
with Eudora.
Error: "<Dominant>, Logging into POP Server...close by foreign host (0)"
when attempting to set up Eudora 5.0 for Norton AntiVirus email protection
Situation:
You are using Eudora 5.0 and Norton AntiVirus 2000/2001 (NAV). You want to
set up Eudora to use NAV email protection, but when you attempt to do so,
you see the message "<Dominant>, Logging into POP Server, CAPA (<time>).
Error reading from network. Cause Connection close by foreign host (0)"
Solution:
Eudora Light 3.0 and Eudora Pro 4.0 are the only Eudora products that have
been tested with and are supported by NAV 2000/2001. The shipping version of
Eudora Pro 5.0 was released after the newest version of Norton AntiVirus,
NAV 2001 had shipped. Because of changes in the Eudora Pro 5.0 program, NAV
email protection cannot be used with Eudora Pro 5.0 at the present time.
NOTES:
. If you were able to set this up despite the error message, you will
have to disable email protection before you can access email through Eudora
5.0.
. Disabling email protection does not leave you unprotected against
viruses, which are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus
Auto-Protect will scan any incoming files, including email, as they are
saved to your hard drive. Email protection is just another layer on top of
this. Use LiveUpdate to keep your virus definitions up to date, and keep
Auto-Protect enabled.
