Thanks for your suggestions Lee.

I did external repair umpten times and restarted my machine,
nothing seemed to help so I and went to read a book and watch some
TV instead.

Came back a couple of hours later and though why the heck let me start
TMG
and see what errors I get, and wonders of all wonders my base came up
beautifully and I am back in business. (I do have backups, but had
entered quite
a lot of information the past two days).

I appreciate your help :)
