In most other programs, any one type of report might be created based on
certain options, and if you produce that report for different
persons/purposes then the same report is used each time with the options
being changed each time. In TMG, you may have as many reports of the same
type as you need. That is you set the options for a specific report for a
person/purpose and generate the report from that setup giving it a
Configuration Name. The next time you need the same report, you select
that Configuration Name and generate the same report without having to
change options (unless you wish). In the meantime, if you want a similar
report for a different person/purpose you can create another Report
Definition with a different Configuration Name using different
options. Thus you might have many Report Definitions for the same report
type with different options (including different focuses) each with a
specific Configuration Name allowing you to select which report should be
generated.
You may change the Title (and accompanying sub-title) field(s) as you
wish. The "[F]" variable is designed to automatically select the name of
the focus person and include that in the title so you don't have to change
the report title each time the focus person changes unless you wish a
different title. Because you may have different Report Definitions (each
with a different Configuration Name), you will likely only change the
Report Name for any one report once and it would remain for each time you
generate that report.
So you might have the following Report Definitions in your Custom Report
Writer Log (and possibly displaying under the appropriate report type on
the Reports menu):
List of People - 1930 Census
List of People - 1920 Census
List of People - My Maternal GM Line
List of People - My Maternal GF Line
List of People - Birth before 1890
Thus you may have and generate different reports as often as you need
without having to change the selected options each time.
Hope this helps -
