I can't help you with the deletion, but I have a line which I am not sure of
either. Since it was a continuation of one of my ancestral lines, what I
did to disconnect them was to remove the parents as primary, thus separating
the lines. To do this, you first have to create a second set of "phony"
parents and swap them out for the parents you have as primary. Thus, the
former primary parents will appear at the top of your person's event screen,
being replaced by the phony ones below which are now primary. I then
deleted the phony parents, so it appears that no parents exist for this
person. Then, I changed the parents now listed at the tope of the event
screen to Father-Pos and Mother-Pos. This method would work as well severing
a son or daughter from his parents for a descendant line. You just go to the
person you want to severe, and delete the parental connection. You wouldn't
even have to create a set of phony parents like I did above if you are sure
the line is definitely not connected and never will be.
I kept the people in my database because I have not proven or disproven the
link, but did not want them showing up on reports. You, however, could
safely remove all these now without fear of damaging the rest of your file.
Unfortunately, I know of no way to do that deletion except one by one. But,
at least, if you can sever the line, that is one step further to your goal!
And, depending on your research range, you may want to keep this line in
your database anyway for future reference in case it connects someplace
else.

Grandparents are similar to a piece of string handy to have around and
easily wrapped around the fingers of grandchildren.
