Laura - At least you only got 4 potential problems. Before the warning from
Jim, I ran VFI several times, always coming up with 114 problems. I am sure
that at some juncture I will figure out just what those 114 problems are.

I'm sorry for the delay in responding. My Internet cable service has been
out all day.
Jim, I've done a very dumb thing... After the problem I had last night, I
made copies of my backup files and then restored the latest. I couldn't
duplicate the sort date problem, though my witness names still displayed in
a mixture of first-last and last, first formats. Validate File Integrity
returned "four potential problems fixed" each time. I then imported again
from v4.d, ran Validate on that database and it returned no potential
problems. To make a long story short, after all my tinkering, all I have
left are files that show no potential problems, and in them I find none. I
have lost a few days of data entry, but so be it. Life is too short to
worry about the little things. The dumb thing, though, is that I deleted
the project that had the problem, and also the extra copies of the old
backup files. Therefore, I have nothing left that will help identify the
problem. In the future I will know better!
Having said that, I have one very small project - only about 40 people -
that I started from scratch as a learning tool. The witness names are
displaying strangely in that project also, though I have not been able to
duplicate the sort date problem. I have also noticed (in this project) that
tags with no dates at all are sorting to the top though I have selected
sort to the bottom in Preferences. The witness sentences are also showing
the same problem that I mentioned in an earlier post. (That is, a male
sentence for a female.) The only thing that resolved that problem was
deleting the sentence, closing the edit witness screen, and reopening.
Running Validate File Integrity reported 8 potential problems fixed when I
ran it the first time, and thereafter, it is consistently reporting 4
potential problems fixed. I will continue to play with this project to see
what I can turn up or duplicate. A couple of other things, though... After
I ran Validate on the small project, I entered a few witnesses to see what
would happen. The post Validate names appear correctly; the others are
liable to appear correctly or incorrectly at any given moment. Also, I have
found none of these problems in a freshly imported database, meaning before
new data is added in v5. If you think this small project will be of any
help, I will be happy to send it to you.
Once more, I'm sorry for the delay. If I should disappear, it means my
service has gone out again.
