Hi Laura,
Not in the least. Nobody in their right mind will be happy about
finding a problem. I hope that all who do find an error will report it
as you did. I also hope that they will take the same attitude. "All I
did was risk a few hours of my time, and that I can live with."
Those who do get mad and downright nasty about time lost are another
matter. Whether we put our data into a notebook or TMG5, there are
risks. I once had a cat that could shed paper real fast. Whatever
media or program we use, we have to look at the conditions and act
accordingly. It is not wise to spend days entering data into a
notebook and leave it where a paper shredding cat can get to it. IMO,
it is also not wise to spend days entering data into a new product
without taking added precautions like ensuring the results are what
you expected.
Many places where I have worked use what is called the STAR program.
Stop
Think
Act
Review
We should stop and think about what we expect to be the results of our
actions. After we act, we should ensure that doing it the way we did
gave the expected results. We should look at more than the screen in
which we are working. What happened in the Picklist, Sibling and other
windows. Did we get the results we expected? If not, that is the time
to go to Help or TMG-L or Wholly Genes for some answers. As much as
possible, TMG5 is like TMG4 but they are not the same. What was done
in TMG4 will often be the same but there are also exceptions. There
are both human and software factors that can cause problems. We need
to watch for them.
