Cliff-Agreed. Sometimes I think we who study families and genealogy get too
picky about "fact". I like to think I try to do as well as I can separating
real facts from other kinds of facts but I paraphrase a quotation that goes
like this. Reason is a speck of sand in an ocean of emotion. In genealogy we
could say that absolutely proven information is a speck of sand in an ocean
of information. ie, Before the advent of relationships defined in the 1880
census there was no real way to tell from census inforamation that the
children listed in a household were the children of the two adults in the
household who if they were a man and a woman of the right age we assumed were
the parents. Starting from that mountain of inference and estimates, we get
very worried if some one on the list was born on July 5 or July 6. Indeed we
do get picky at times.-Dale
