Or they no longer remember who those people are. I have many of my
mother's old pictures that are of people I used to know years ago. Mostly
these were of family and friends that I knew as a child -- I remember the
faces. But these were ones that I might see once a year for a few years
and was not with a great deal (probably spent five minutes with them and
then went to play with my cousins). Still I keep the pictures hoping that
somewhere, sometime, something will trigger a memory.
