In a book published in 1931, the author mentioned that his ancestor,
now mine, and a brother, maybe two, may have come from Denmark. Based
on that I have looked in Denmark. I now have evidence that three
brothers did go to Oslo, Norway. I have evidence that their mother
died in Denmark. I have evidence that one brother was married in
Denmark. I am on the right trail all because I heeded someone's 70
year old guess. A guess, not even hearsay.

If I had good factual information about all my relatives, my genealogy
would be finished. No more digging for any tidbit of information and
chasing false leads from that information. No more combining of clues
found on wild goose chases to get to the real information. No more
detective work and no more fun.

Old photographs of people and nobody knew who they were. My
grandparents and granduncles kept them for a reason and I kept them.
Little by little I find clues. Just yesterday I was comparing two
unknowns to a known. I now know that a granduncle was wearing a
wedding ring while he still lived in South Africa. He had left Norway
to go to South Africa. He had met a woman from Denmark while in South
Africa. Pictures from an unknown location show her in a wedding
costume. It is known that they were married in Minneapolis but it was
hearsay that they had been married previously. Was there something
wrong with the prior marriage papers and the easy fix was to get
married again? Based on the wedding ring, the answer lies in SA. This
is not what I would call good factual information but I will try to
find evidence in South Africa before I try Norway or Denmark.
