Interesting, the new Genealogy Standards manual, which I was going to quote but I seem to have lost it, maintains that even INADVERTANT published errors are unacceptable (and I believe it says it can potentially be grounds for dismissal or cancelling of certification)! The manual recognizes that this is a higher standard than any other discipline requires. I happen to agree with it, considering the proliferation of "inadvertant" errors in genealogy -- "inadvertant" meaning in many cases "never bothered to check". Professional standards require, and should require, responsible and careful research, so that nothing is published unless it meets the requirements of genealogical proof. I sure wish I could find that book: I consider it a very valuable resource, been looking all morning for it.
