Yep, TMG comes up and says 8 is as small as it will allow.

Usually when the drop down box doesn't include the font size you want you
can just type it in and it will work. (The only exceptions I know of are
for non True Type (TT) fonts.)

Have you tried entering a number smaller than 8 as the font size (just
typing over the number in the box)?
