If I don't know a name (given or surname), I leave the field blank. This
applies to any person - male or female, maiden name, or married name or any
other name. This way I am consistent throughout my data set. The question
then is how this prints in reports.
A single option is available in the TMG.INI file (in v4x) and in Report
Definition Screens (in v5) to specify how blank names will print in
reports. The default value is "(--?--)" but could easily be changed to
something else. Thus if you have Mrs. Jane Doe's Primary Name record as
just the Given name of "Jane" and a blank Surname, then using the default
blank name the report would print something like: "Jane (--?--) was born
...."
Hope this helps -
