I've been following the discussion of how to make the event tags follow the (mis)spellings found in various sources, and I'm not getting the logic of doing so. While I can see that you _can_ do it for single source entries like a census tag, I don't see how to do it for multiple source entries like birth. Do you make separate birth tags for each spelling? Like Stuart, I note all spelling variations in the CD or source definition, both so anyone can find the entry, and to record that there was a variation. I see that as part of properly citing the source.
Even though you can do it for some tags, I don't see the value in doing so unless there is reason to believe the variation was actually used by the person. In that case I add a nickname or name variation tag to reflect a general use of the variant name. But I don't see any reason to perpetuate an error in a source by repeating it in my narratives. Obviously, others will differ. <g> Perhaps some of the differences have to do with what we see as our objectives - mine is to produce narrative output that others may read to learn about our ancestors, but again, others may differ.
