I think most of those well-experienced with images produced in report or
even on photographic printer paper would agree that we just don't have the
experience of how long printed images will last as compared with regular
photographs. I have printed images from a variety of printers using a
variety of ink and paper. So far, I have not noted any deterioration in
them but I have only had them for a short time (a couple of years or so).

Most printer ink is not of archival quality and this is particularly so for
colors other than black. As to which printer does a better job, the more
expensive printers will likely do better than others. But the difference
between printers of the same price range will not usually be significantly
different.
