This advice is an invitation to disaster and ranks as one of the worse
pieces of advice ever given on this mailing list. And this is not a personal
attack. Please don't take it as so.

First, if updates are associated with system crashes, your system has a
serious problem independent of the updates and needs repair. I would
actually recommend a clean install.

Second, a major component of the Windows updates are _security_ updates. If
you use the Internet and you obviously do, the updates are a major component
of staying in front of the bad guys.

Everyone, without exception, should be updating their operating system
regularly and frequently.
