Walt,
It is good for if you know a person lives in a certain spot today, you can go
back in time to the time period in which they lived and see what state and
county that was. For instance: I know that my Morgan cemetery is in
Antioch, TN. But where was it in 1850 when the family started using it? For
my TN research it isn't that helpful since the counties didn't change all
that much, once they were formed. But for someone researching northern
states in the early 1700s it would be a God send.
For the price, I think it could do a little more than it does. It doesn't
allow you to zoom into an area and see creeks and such like a mapping
software does, but you can overlay a map of rivers and streams. But if your
family lived on the county line, being able to zoom in would help you place
them better.
The site find software does include several places around here that no
longer exist. I haven't played with it much, but you can mark places on the
maps and then export those maps to a .Bmp or .txt file that you could use in
TMG. Or send it to Paintbrush where you could edit it more.
Basically, it is great for helping with county line changes, but for upclose
work, I still use streets and trips. <G>
