Brian,

First, you should separate the "wheat from the chaff."

The only data you provided that is important is: Width: 2185/1280/640/546
and Height: 2776/960/480/694.

This represents the size of the image in pixels. (pixel is the name given to
the dots of information that make up an image.) In other words, a 2185 x
2776 image is 2,185 pixels across by 2,776 pixels down for a total of
6,065,560 dots of information.

The next thing you need to find out is the resolution of your computer
monitor. Most desktop monitors are set for a resolution of 1024 x 768 for a
total of 786,432 pixels (although this varies widely). This means that on
that particular monitor you would be able to see only about 13% of your 2185
x 2776 image. (786,432 divided by 6,065,560)

I apologize for only providing the theory behind the answer to your
question. I am unfamiliar with the operation of IrvanView so cannot tell you
how to use it to manipulate your images. Furthermore, I do not know which
computer operating system you are using so cannot tell you how to locate the
monitor resolution specification.

By the way, along the same lines is the confusion over "print" size. In that
case you would need to know the "pixels per inch." For example, a 150 pixel
per inch image that is 2185 x 2776 would equate to 14.567 inches by 18.507
inches.

Hello!

I attached a bunch of photographs to my TMG data. I admit I was fairly
careless about the size when I scanned some of the photographs. The one in
particular is listed as width: 2185 Height: 2776 Colors: 24 bpp size:
4207519 bytes. I also have some photos of tombstones taken with my digital
camera most of these are listed as Width: 1280 Height 960 Colors: 24 bpp
Size: 303692 bytes. I noticed that having them at this size makes them to
large for my laptop computer to show the full picture. What do I need to do
to "resize" them to fit better? I am fiddling around with Irfanview, but I
can't seem to get the size/quality right. Here is what I am doing to try
and resize the photos. I open the picture that is saved in the -p file.
Then I use IrfanView (Ctrl R) to Resize/Resample I have Preserve aspect
ratio checked and the Size Method is set to Resample (better quality). I
then click on the Half button to change the dimensions to somewhere around
640x480 (the 2185 x 2776 photo changed to 546 x 694), but the image still
seems to large to me. Any Suggestions on how to best size them?

Brian Milks
