You're intuition is right on -- I think that's what Stuart was referring
to in a comment about past discussions of sorting. <g> As I recall the
explanation, Bob V said quite a while back that this is because he found
that users really meant "before 1975" to mean including the year 1975 --
what you mean by the term "by." I agree with your logic, but that's the
way it is and I don't think it's going to change. As far as the program
goes, I don't find it to be a big deal, as it mainly affects sorting,
and you can control that by changing the sort date.
That doesn't help with the distinction you want to make in the printed
output. My suggestion to use the custom language option was somewhat
tounge-in-cheek -- it really will work but it's not all that easy.
There's an article on it on my website, but it's for TMG4 and I've not
finished updating it for TMG5. And I think there's a problem with TMG5
anyway, since part of the strategy requires use of a function in John
Cardinal's utility, and I think last time I looked it wasn't available
yet in the version for TMG5.
