I just export two GEDCOMs from AFT... the first as 'Standard, GEDCOM 5.5,
Ansel' and the second as AFT. The NOTE tags created showed nothing unusual
and were not NOTE xrefs (that TMG5 will not import).

I'd need to to see your GEDCOM to make any sort of reasonable assessment.
