Not totally OT--I want to enter my ggf's birthplace into TMG! He was
born in "England" in 1840 +/- 2 years and emigrated to Canada around
1865 apparently on his own. Exhaustive interviewing of relatives and
searching for obits and the like have been fruitless, aside from an
elderly aunt recalling she was told he had a "Cockney" accent, but I
question whether anyone would have been able to judge that accurately.
We have a 400 year old book he brought over with him which is signed by
a relative and followed by an address which is unreadable (but almost
almost legible) due to water damage. It has other signatures but the
only readable place is dated 1699. He does not have a very distinctive
name. Any hope of finding him "over there"? I have tried chasing leads
from the IGI without any success.
