I really cannot allow Jeff to get away unscathed with his messages of the
glories of the North East of England and site with pix. of cows (do bear in
mind that he lived south of the River [Thames] when he was down London way
north being far more sophisticated). Perhaps he never saw the soaring dome
of St. Pauls Cathedral, Tower Bridge floodlit, the castles, nay Palaces, of
Buckingham, St. Jamess, Westminster, Harrods and Selfridges (all quite
intact)! Lincolns Inn, the Royal Courts of Justice, splendid red
double-decker buses (free to me after 9.00 a.m.), electrically operated
fiche readers in the FRC if one gets there early enough. I could go on and
on about the wonders of London and I havent even started on beautiful
Buckinghamshire beechwoods carpeted with bluebells in spring.
As for us 1944 girls well our hair may be a different colour (choice
unlimited these days), the spinnaker a little lower, the girth somewhat
larger, the legs less elegant thanks to untold family labours but the zip
is still there. There are even younger, lovelier versions of us around but,
of course, not as interesting as those of us with tales to tell.
