Do I recall correctly that it is possible to indicate the relationship of
each person in one's data to a particular person? For example, to make my
great, great grandfather's screen contain the statement: "Great great
grandfather of X". Is this doable? And if so, how?

I have tried the "relationship calculator, but all it does is tell me when
that screen is up - I cannot see where it allows me to apply it to all my
people.
