Subject: [TMG] Strange Backup behaviour TMG 5.05
Date: Tue, 1 Apr 2003 20:03:07 +1000
I don't think I have a major problem, so I'm not really asking for help,
but I wonder if anyone else has noticed something like this...
I have been doing lots of data entry, so TMG has gradually slowed down
and I decided to Reindex. So, of course I thought I should do a backup
first, and that backup was 5265 KB. I reindexed, did some more data
entry, and 58 minutes later did another backup. This one was 9430 KB!
Today I have opened TMG and done another backup straight away, just to
check what is going on, and it is 5266 KB .....much more the size I was
expecting. The only thing that I can think has happened is that I
normally give a backup a unique name (eg 1 Apr 2003.sqz), and with the
big one, I let it write over the top of an old backup. This made me
think that instead of replacing the old backup, it actally appended to
it, so I just tested the theory.
Copy of an old backup 4129 KB
New backup with same name (yes to overwrite) 9395 KB
New backup with new name 5266 KB
It certainly looks like it has appended, on Restore they appear to have
the same number of individuals.
This would really worry me if I was an ocassional back-upper, but I have
backups going back to June last year, and always backup after data
entry, so I know that I am reasonably data-secure.
Has anyone else noticed anything like this?
